Not too red, not too orange, not pink...

What's the way you pick out brick for your new house? You drive around, looking at new houses (preferably ones that your builder has builted) and decide what you like. I like red. By the way, you do the same process for trim and shingles, but I never remember to do it--I'm too obsessed with the brick. I've taken pictures of six or seven that I like, and here they are, in no particular order:
#1:

#2:

#3:

#4:

#5:

#6:

#7:

I have my favorite. What do you think?

Wow...all of those are so drastically different, the choice is obvious 8-) (Yikes)

Before I reveal my outright answer, a few comments: I like contrast within the bricks, so we have #2 and #4 excelling there. I also like the white accents mixed in with the brick...not just on the trim, so I love the big white blocks on #3 and #2 isnt bad either. #6 has good contrast, but a very strange feel about it. (I think it may be the hugemangous umbrella roof.)

Despite all that, my favorite is... #4. It has the most character and is the best mixture of brick, trim, and shingle. I may be getting ahead of myself in skipping ahead to shingle and trim, but I personally love that #4. I like those offset bricks on the corners...even though they arent white, I think there is enough white in the bricks itself.

Jeez man, couldnt you have at least made a poll out of this so that we could just click and choose?? ;) Then I wouldnt have written all this...

I agree with the fellas. #4 is my definite favorite! I love the blocks on the corners and the little white accents at the top of the windows. All the others are either too dark or have way too much contrast which is kinda tacky.

Wow, I didn't realize how similar mine and #5 actually are. Also, now that I am looking again, #4 is my favorite still, but I think the landscaping and yard make a big difference. It doesnt have dead grass like #1 or green smurf's running around the base like #2.

It's hard to ignore the landscaping, but it is good to note, that if you end up not liking the brick, just accent it with some awesome landscaping.

Favorite - #4
2nd Favorite - #5

I'm going to have to go against the grain here and say #2 or #3. I really like the orange-y antique tone #3 has. The inset of off-white trim is nice too, but I DO NOT like those chiclet squares on the corners.

I find it interesting that everyone (except April) picked #4 even though it is the pinkest one out of the bunch. I have to say that my favorite is #5. My choice may be biased because it is most similar to our house. I also like the brick in #3, but I dont think the picture of the whole house does it much justice due to the ligthing.

I also think the brick in #2 is fabulous, but the white stone on the bottom does not. With time the white will turn orange/brown and end up looking very tacky. I have to say that I don't like #4. It just seems too average to me.

I may need to re-photo with close-ups and consistent sunlight. This might get more dangerous than me hawking around photoing myself on my lot. How many times can I pull up in front of a house and snap a pic before I get cussed or chased?

Pull up in front, snap a picture, and then talk into your sleeve like a CIA agent.

What do we win if we pick your favorite--expensive gritty cheese? =)

AB,mothersupreme, and Linz, who all own and have owned many houses think none are red enough. If these are our only choices, we pick #5, or possibly #3. Chiclet should remain as a gum flavor. We like the brick accents on the corners, but not the white. And be sure, if you plant trees in the front (as in #1), don't plant them too close to the entry. It is very distracting from the house ambience -- no curb appeal. We watch Curb Appeal, so we know what we are talking about. If you read this soon, let us know when we are going to be graced with your presence.
